Caterpillar Inc. isn’t a construction company, it’s a construction powerhouse. They took construction to the next level. Caterpillar is the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives. If you go to any construction site across the country, you’re pretty much guaranteed to see that trademarked yellow and black logo over some huge piece of machinery.
Since originating from a merger in 1925 between Holt Manufacturing Company and C.L. Best Tractor Company, Caterpillar Inc. has morphed into a manufacturing monster. In 2011, Fortune ranked Caterpillar Inc. number 58 on the Fortune 500 with revenues of over $60 billion, as well as the number one “Most Admired Company” within its industry, and number 19 overall. Manufacturers like Caterpillar have been the building blocks to our nation’s success in the past century and we are going to need to develop more great manufacturers with American pride in order to be successful going forward.
